Time + Yield
- Prep Time: 20 minutes
- Bake Time: 3+ hours
- Yield: 48-60 cookies
Ingredients
- 4 egg whites at room temperature
- 2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
Materials
- large mixing bowl
- baking sheets (2)
- parchment paper
- extra-large piping bag*
- open star piping tip*
- electric mixer or whisk
- wooden spoon/utensil
*If you don’t have piping bags or decorating tips, you can use large zip-close bags instead. Trim off the corner to allow your mixture to flow easily (without squeezing too hard).
Directions
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat egg whites on medium speed until foamy.* Gradually sprinkle in sugar while continuing to beat on medium speed. Beat the egg and sugar mixture until thick, smooth, and satin-like,* approximately 15 minutes.
- Transfer mixture to a large piping bag and pipe meringues* onto the prepared baking sheets.
- Propping the oven door open slightly with a wooden spoon, bake for 3+ hours until dry throughout. Meringues should lift easily from parchment. Allow to cool and store in an airtight container before serving.
